A long-lost film directed by Roger Christian, who served as art director for the first Star Wars movie, could soon be made available as a download, according to a comment given to Wired. Titled Black Angel, the 25-minute film tells the story of a medieval knight returning from the Crusades — it was originally shown before screenings of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back in Europe and Australia, but the negative was lost at some point following this 1980 debut. An archivist at Universal Studios rediscovered the film last year and informed Christian, who has been debating how to re-release it ever since.

In April, The Washington Post’s Social Reader had 12 million monthly active users. Now, it has about 600,000 according to AppData, a decline of 95 percent. The Guardian had nearly 6 million monthly active users of its Facebook app in April. Now it has about 2.5 million, a decline of about 75 percent.

Most Facebook users didn’t want this, for all the reasons we’ve discussed before — thoughtless sharing means little to your friends, can lead to faulty assumptions about why you read something and have a chilling effect on what you choose to read.

Frictionless sharing was an idea we tried. It failed.”

-
‘Frictionless sharing’ is an instructive failure of 2012 (via courtenaybird)

Agree.
BBC Television Centre in White City was designed in the late 1950s by Graham Dawbarn. The story goes that, while playing with ideas to fill the triangular plot, he inked in a giant question mark. The typographic doodle turned out to be a fitting design solution, and the studios were built to that shape. When the newsroom was added in the 1990s, it was specifically built into a drum shape to form the dot at the bottom of the question mark.

thisistheverge:
